Smoke Damage Cleanup After a Neighboring Unit Fire

The fire was two doors down the corridor. This unit never burned, but it was unliveable - grey film on every surface and an odour that came back every time the AC ran.

Smoke had been drawn into the unit through the corridor door and then distributed by the air handler, which is why the ceilings near the supply vents were the dirtiest part of the apartment.

We dry-sponged ceilings and walls before any wet cleaning, cleaned every hard surface, HEPA vacuumed textiles, and cleaned the duct system, blower wheel and coil. Contents that needed more went out for off-site cleaning.

A hydroxyl cycle ran with the unit sealed, and we rechecked with the apartment closed up for 24 hours before releasing it. Two walls were sealed and repainted where residue had bonded to the finish.
